Application Example: Diagnosis of Melanoma

Epina ImageLab can be used in a wide variety of circumstances, one of them being histology and the diagnosis of malignant melanoma. Traditionally skin tissue is embedded in paraffin and then evaluated by a histologist in order to diagnose melanoma. Epina ImageLab can help improve this process providing an increase in accuracy and efficiency for trained histologists.

Drag the slider across the image of a skin tissue sample below. It clearly demonstrates the difference between the traditional approach and the results achieved with Epina ImageLab.

The data analysis of the melanoma has been based on the work of E. Renner [Renner 2016].
