Database Entry

Each database entry can be seen as a "card" which contains all the information available on a particular spectrum. A database entry can be edited by double-clicking the corresponding line in the database list. This opens the card editor where you can enter and/or change the meta information. Please note that you can only edit the meta information and not the spectral data.

In particular the following database fields are available:

  • Item Id: a unique item id which is glued to the spectroscopic data during the entire lifetime of a database.
  • Date/Time: The time stamp cannot be changed by the user. It indicates the date/time of the last change of the database entry.
  • Caption: The caption/title of the database entry (max. 255 characters)
  • Reference: 255 character string; the exact meaning of the reference data depends on the database. Normally this field contains a pointer on the source of the data.
  • Keywords: 255 character string; the user-defined index keywords. All keywords have to be separated by semicolons.
  • Comment: an arbitrary comment (max. 255 characters)
  • Mol. Formula: The molecular formula using a special syntax which supports subscripts and superscripts (see Database Pseudo HTML for details)
  • Spec. Type: the type of the spectral data. The user can select from a long list of supported types (see Supported Spectral Types for details).
  • Origin: indicates the origin of the spectrum (i.e. whether it is a reference spectrum, or a pixel spectrum, a calculated mean spectrum, etc.)
  • Units: the units of measurement of the wavelength of the spectra
  • Class No.: Each database entry can be assigned to a class (valid range of class numbers: 0...127)
  • State Flags: 32 user-definable state flags
  • User-Defined Categories: The uses may define any number of additional categories which can hold numeric, logic and text values. See User-defined Database Categories for more.
